Venediger Höhenweg Etappe 2
****
On the second day of hiking, we follow the Schwerinerweg for a while, winding our way up the serpentines to the Türmljoch at an altitude of almost 2,800 meters. Our hearts beat a few beats faster in the thinner air. It's a good thing that our next stage destination, the Johan-nishütte, is just under 700 meters lower. Incidentally, it is one of the oldest huts in the Eastern Alps. Built in 1857, extended in 1999.
Continue along the "Schwerinerweg" for a short distance into the Maurertal, and then quickly gain altitude in serpentines up to the Türmljoch (2,772 m). The descent leads, well marked with stone markers, and in the lower section of the path increasingly steep, to the oldest hut in the Eastern Alps, the Johannishütte (built in 1857, expanded in 1999).
