The minimalist likes to hike light. A nutty muesli bar is all he needs for a quick energy boost. A bit of trail mix as a snack in between is also possible, but otherwise he doesn't spend much time eating on the mountain. He prefers to run up the mountain with ease and take a savoury bite of an apple at the summit cross, drink a large gulp of water and enjoy the peace and quiet and the view.
Traditionalists like to eat with relish. No distance is too far for him, as his refreshments are always stowed in his rucksack ready to hand. He walks leisurely along the paths, his Landjäger always his faithful companion. He enjoys the view and looks for an idyllic spot for a snack break. Finally, he makes himself comfortable on a rock at the summit cross, unpacks his hip flask and devours his cheese sandwich under the envious gaze of passers-by.
The gourmet doesn't want to miss out on good, healthy food, even when he's on the mountain, and is prepared to carry a heavy load on his shoulders. The evening before, he had already spent hours in the kitchen, lovingly preparing couscous salad and energy balls, chopping vegetables and mixing the yoghurt and herb dip. The cool bag and silver cutlery are dragged up the mountain and the delicious meal is eaten on the picnic blanket on the alpine meadow.
The athlete only has his eyes on the summit and his fitness tracker as he sprints up the mountain, leaving no time for food. He quickly stuffs himself with the 4oo kcal protein bar, which easily replaces a whole meal anyway. Three big gulps of water from the hydration bladder and on he goes. He takes a short breather and pops a glucose to help him tackle the last few metres of altitude. Once at the top, he treats himself to a banana and an energy drink before jetting downhill again.
The unprepared likes to rely on his fellow hikers, scrounging half a muesli bar from the minimalist and a Landjäger from the traditional. "I thought we were going to a hut!" - But when you arrive there famished, the cheese dumplings taste particularly good!
