Rules for handling grazing animals

Austria's farmers make an important contribution to the preservation of our alpine landscape. We ask you as a visitor to respectfully adapt to this beautiful landscape.
  • Avoid contact with grazing livestock

Do not feed the animals, keep a safe distance and stay on the paths.

  • Avoid suckler cows

Mother cows protect their calves. Avoid encounters between suckler cows and dogs!

  • Keep calm

Walk past calmly and do not frighten the grazing cattle. If animals block the path, keep as far away as possible.

  • Dogs on a short lead

Keep dogs on a short lead. In the event of an attack by a grazing animal: put your dog on a lead immediately!

  • Note grazing areas

If there is a gate, close it well and cross the pasture area quickly and on the marked path.

  • Avoid animals

Avoid approaching grazing animals and do not turn your back on them. If the animals become restless, leave the grazing area quickly.
