Trail description
This delightful snowshoe starts at Strumerhof Inn high above Matrei. Drive your car from Matrei towards Virgen and follow signs to Strumerhof from Zedlach. The Inn can as well be accessed from Matrei via a delightful 45-minute walk along a forest road. If you’re lucky enough to have a clear day, views of the surrounding mountain are stupendous, from 3,086-meter Granatspitze Spire in the East to rugged Lasörling Range in the South. Follow the forest road down towards Lärchenstation, where you will find the Interpretive Woodland Trail of Zedlach Paradise. A vigorous climb takes you to an impressive, walk-up sculpture of a brown bear. You’ll wander in the shade of gnarled, listed larch trees, some of which are more than 500 years old with a gradual climb taking you to the highest point on this walk at an elevation of 1,680 meters.
Retrace your steps in snow to a fork and descend to Strumerhof Inn. A popular and unique place, Strumerhof Inn serves hearty and innovative local dishes. Simply contemplate your good fortune while sitting here surrounded by pure mountain beauty.
Please Note: Be prepared to adjust your activity based on current conditions. As a general rule, if there is fresh snow, conditions may be better suited for snowshoeing; if the snow is old and well-travelled, it may be better for winter walking. For avalanche conditions visit lawine.tirol.gv.at.
