The Schwarzer See lake can be found above the village of Nauders, in the region where Italy, Switzerland and Austria converge, near the Reschenpass mountain pass. The lake itself is surrounded by the Kleiner Mutzkopf and Großer Mutzkopf mountains, at an altitude of 1,725 metres above sea level, in the Sesvenna Massif. This charming winter hike takes around 3.5 hours and therefore requires a good level of fitness. It can also be completed on snowshoes if there is sufficient snow cover.

Trail description
The hike starts at the Gasthof Martha on the edge of Nauders and leads along the old summer trail to Tiefer Gatter - Kreuzmoos and then to the Schwarzer See. Take trail 7 to Tiefer Gatter, then trail 5 for a short while, before turning right onto the winter hiking trail towards Kreuzmoos. The trail intersects with trail 9 (snowshoe hike only) and becomes a little steeper as it rises to the Schwarzer See lake at 1,712 metres. From the lake hikers can descend on trail 5 or 8 via the Gasthof Riatschhof down to Nauders.
