Rofan Mountains Hike

This beautiful winter hike begins with a ride on the Rofanseilbahn cable car. Once up at the top, take a moment to enjoy the fabulous views of the Rofan and Karwendel Mountains and enjoy a snack and a drink at the restaurant next to the top of the cable car before heading towards the Mauritzalm hut. This trail feeds into the circular Rundwanderweg Rofan, which takes walkers past huts and meadows all the way back to the top station of the cable car. Though the cows which normally graze here in summer are down in the valley in winter, there is no shortage of alpine fauna. Keen-eyed walkers may even spot a few snow grouse. And what better way to enjoy the landscape than with a large plate of delicious "Kaiserschmarrn".

Trail description

Take the Rofanseilbahn cable car in Maurach am Achensee up to the top station at 1834 metres. The trail then leads uphill towards the Mauritzalm hut. After reaching the hut, turn right onto the path leading towards the Jägerhütte hut and onto the "Rundwanderweg Rofan" circular hiking trail. This continues through open meadows back to the top of the cable car.
