Trail description
This delightful half-day snowshoe walk starts beneath Zwölferkopf Peak, on the road coming from Maurach and 200 meters behind St. Hubertus Inn. The trail is dedicated to Saint Notburga, the patroness of poor peasants and servants who lived in nearby Rattenburg in the 13th century in Tirol. In her iconography, she is often depicted with a sickle and that’s why the gateway to this trail is designed as a larger-than-life-size sickle. The trail winds through areas of awesome natural beauty where you can come to terms with Mother Nature at her most benevolent. Simply contemplate your good fortune while walking up here surrounded by pure mountain beauty. Follow the trail until a signed track heads to „Rodlhütte-Bärenbadalm“ and go ahead to get to Rodl Hut. Warm up and refuel with snacks and drinks at Rodl Hut before cruising down the mountain on a sled. Sleds are available for rental from the Hut. Eventually, take the cleared winter walking trail on the shores of Achensee Lake to get back to the trailhead.
Please Note: Be prepared to adjust your activity based on current conditions. As a general rule, if there is fresh snow, conditions may be better suited for snowshoeing; if the snow is old and well-travelled, it may be better for winter walking. For avalanche conditions visit lawine.tirol.gv.at.
