There are few snowshoe walks in the region around Innsbruck which offer such incredible views as this one high above the regional capital on the iconic Patscherkofel mountain. The 6km trail is relatively easy and leads along a wide trail gently downhill. There is a hut along the way serving hearty food. Snowshoes can be hired at the bottom of the cable car.

Trail description
Leaving from Igls, ride the Patscherkofelbahn cable car up to the top at 1,964 metres above sea level. This is where you strap on your snowshoes and embark on the summit trail (trail number 31) heading south. A large arc via the southern side of the mountain plus a few switchbacks will take you to the top of the mountain along a wide, easy trail. Up at the top there is the Gipfelstube, a cosy hut serving food and offering fine views.
Head back along the same route. Alternatively, you can take the narrow trail heading west. However, this is very steep and at risk of avalanches if there is a lot of snow.
