Between the rugged peaks of the Larstig and Sellrain Mountains lies the unspoilt Horlachtal Valley. Starting from the village of Niederthai near Umhausen, home to just 300 inhabitants, this leisurely winter walk leads along the Horlachbach stream through the valley back to the starting point. It takes about 2.5 hours to complete and takes in snow-covered forests and fields as well as passing a particularly rustic hut serving drinks and snacks. A total of around 290 vertical metres of uphill are to be completed from start to finish. The trail itself is wide and easy to walk.

Trail description
The hike begins at the Sennhof car park in Niederthai. First walk along the village road in a southerly direction. After about 280 metres, turn left at the Hotel Falknerhof. The road meets a forest path, which first leads through fields and after a few metres into the forest. Follow the Horlachbach stream into the valley of the same name until you reach the Larstighof snack station. On the way back, about 500 metres after the snack station, turn right onto the Bergmähderweg trail to hike on the other side of the Horlachbach stream to Niederthai.
