The small resort of Pillerseetal - Buchsteinwand is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of mass tourism and enjoy the quieter side of Tirol. There are pistes for all abilities as well as fine views of the Loferer Rocky Mountains.
Its easy-to-navigate topography and gentle, sunny slopes make the resort of Pillerseetal - Buchsteinwand ideal for families and those new to wintersports, though there are a number of challenging pistes for advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders such as the red runs and the black run down from the top of the 1,456-metre-high Buchensteinwand mountain to St. Ulrich. The resort itself can be acessed from two sides: St. Ulrich and St. Jakob in the north, and Hochfilzen in the south. Both have easy slopes for beginners and children. There is a special children's area ("Pletzi Kinderpark") in St. Ulrich. The skiing is generally more challenging near the summit of the mountain, where there is a huge 30-metre-high cross which visitors can climb up inside to enjoy the view. Freeriders and ski mountaineering fans will find good off-piste terrain.
