The ski resort of Hochoetz high above the Ötztal Valley is ideal for families with children. Highlights include "Widi" the friendly mascot.
With its blue (easy) and red (intermediate) runs criss-crossing the northern slopes of the Acherkogel mountain, the compact resort of Hochoetz is the perfect destination for all the family. The pistes extend from 1,400m up to almost 2,300m and can be reached by cable car from Oetz in the Ötztal Valley and from Ochsengarten, a village at 1,500m altitude next to the road that leads from Oetz up to Kühtai.
Children will love the local mascot, a friendly ram called "Widi", who will introduce them to skiing in the children's practice area run by the local ski schools. For older children there is a larger funpark near the Balbachsessellift chairlift. Experienced skiers can take on the challenging run all the way down to Ochsengarten as well as the permanently installed race course and the off-piste powder trails.
There are a number of huts and restaurants serving local food, including a self-service children's restaurant next to the top of the Acherkogelbahn cable car with a sunny terrace and a play area. If you ride the Wetterkreuzbahn cable car, don't forget to stop at the "Zugspitzblick" viewing platform with its fabulous vistas reaching as far as the Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak.
