The Seewaldhütte is a mountain refuge north-west of Lake Achensee, Tirol's largest lake, in the Karwendel Mountains. This self-catering hut sleeps up to 20 people, with groups having to bring their own food and entertainment. There is a wood-burning stove for heating and a battery supplying electric light. Running water is also provided. Though nobody lives in the hut full-time, a volunteer often comes up to sell drinks. Other than that, guests are left to their down devices in the fabulous landscape. The hut is open every day from July until September. Arrangements can also be made on weekends in May, June, October and November. There are several mountains near the hut which can be climbed, from the easy Hochplatte to the challenging Schreckenspitze. It is also worth visiting the nearby "Steinölbrennerei" producing Tirolean stone oil.
