Charming hut on the Berlin High Trail
German Alpine Club, Würzburg Division
One mountain and one cable car are inextricably linked to the Karl-von-Edel-Hütte. The Ahornspitze is the main mountain above Mayrhofen and one of the most popular places for walkers and hikers staying at the hut. This was recognised early by the members of the Würzburg Division of the German Alpine Club, back in 1889, when they built the hut with 20 sleeping places. Over the decades it has been expanded and rebuilt after avalanches on several occasions. The easiest way to get to the hut is by taking the cable car to Filzboden and walking the rest of the way. Families with children will enjoy climbing the easy Toreggenkopf. The "Edelhütte", as it is known to locals, is open from ealy June until the middle of October – the exact opening times depend on when the Ahornbahn cable car is open. The hut is located on the Berlin High Trail.
