It is a self-catering refuge suitable for groups both small and large. The hut is a good base camp for walking and hiking in the idyllic Defereggental Valley in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Further activities include mountain biking, cross-country skiing and alpine skiing. Hikes on the Panargenkamm are up to 3,000 metres above sea level. From the Barmer Haus it is just a few hours' walk to the Barmer Hütte (2,610 metres).
