It's just 500 vertical metres from the Krössbrunnalm up to the Wedelhütte hut, with most hikers completing this walk before they settle down for a meal. Opened in 2009, the hut is the only one in Tirol with five-star service and one of only very few in the Alps serving real haute cuisine. In the evenings the head chef serves delicious four-course menus – a five-course dinner on Saturdays – accompanied by a selection of wines from what is the highest wine cellar in the Alps. Don't be surprised if you see a few famous faces at the table next to you, from local politicians to skiing world champions. Diners can choose between the traditional wood-panelled Wimbachstube, the Kaminrestaurant with its open fireplace, the Zirbenstube with its pinewood decor and, in good weather, the Sky Terrazza or the exclusive Gourmet Lounge seating just 30 guests.

Trail description
The hike starts at the Hirschbichlalm (1,822 metres), located on the Zillertal High Alpine Road (toll fee applies to use this road), where you can leave your car at the carpark. First follow the road in a westerly direction to the Krössbrunnalm huts. Shortly after passing the huts there is a signposted trail to the Wedelhütte which branches off to the left. After passing through a series of relatively flat meadows you will reach a fork in the trail. Take the right-hand fork and continue uphill. From there is is about 1.5 hours to the Wedelhütte hut, which lies at 2,300 metres above sea level.
