The Türmljoch is a relatively easy-to-climb, glacier-free connection between the Dorfertal and Maurertal valleys in the southern Venediger Mountains. This hike of intermediate difficulty is a part of the Venediger High Trail and takes walkers from the Johannishütte via the Essen-Rostocker Hütte back to the village of Hinterbichl in the Virgental Valley. There is also a nice via ferrata climbing route on the itself Türmljoch for those who want even more action.

Trail description
The hike begins at the Johannishütte (2,116 metres). This hut can be reached either on foot (2 hours) or using the taxi transfer service from the village of Hinterbichl. Pass the Johannishütte hut on the right and cross a wooden footbridge to the other side of the Zettalunitzbach stream. Now walk uphill for a few minutes, turn left at the signposts and follow the white-and-red markings. Cross the Dorferbach stream, head uphill, cross the road. Keep to the right and head north diagonally up the slope until the path swings to the left about half an hour later and leads around the rocky foothills of the Aderkamm. Now you are already approaching the Türmljoch (2,790 metres). But first you have to cross a tributary of the Aderkammbach stream and ascend steep hairpin bends until you reach the crossing. The joch's namesake, the striking Türml, can be seen to the left. There is also a magnificent view from here, which you should enjoy for a while. The trail then descends steeply down the western slope over scree and rocks in numerous hairpin bends until you reach the white foaming Maurerbach stream, which you cross. From here it is just 15 minutes to the Essener-Rostocker-Hütte. After a rest and a snack there, head down into the Maurertal Valley. After passing the Ochsnerhütte hut (closed to the general public), you reach the Stoan-Alm snack station. From the Ströden farm and the hikers' car park there, you can return to Hinterbichl on foot along the road or by bus.
