Three Lakes Hike on the Seefeld Plateau

This hike leads to three lakes to the west of Seefeld. One is the Möserer See near Wildmoos (1,280 metres), while the other two are the Wildmoossee and the Lottensee. Surrounded by green pastures and forests of larch and birch, the latter two lakes are the result of an interesting natural phenomenon which causes them to appear and disappear depending on the water level in the underground caves below the surface. As the snow melts in spring, the lakes fill up and remain a popular swimming spot until the autumn comes and they disappear again.

Trail description

Leaving from the indoor tennis courts ("Tennishalle") in Seefeld, take trail number 2 across the open pastures of the Möserer Mähder gently uphill towards Mösern. At the last trail crossing, take the trail heading right and continue past the Kaiserhof, Olympia and Hubertushof hotels to the first lake, the Möserer See. After walking around the lake, take the tarmac road past the Hotel Tyrol and continue for about ten minutes until you reach the Gasthof Menthof. From there, take the "Pirschtsteig" trail towards the Lottensee lake. Near the lake, the "Pirschtsteig" merges with a tarmac road. Follow this for a short section. Then walk along the southern shore of the lake (trail number 2) to the Ferienkolonie Wildmoos, the Wildmoossee lake and the popular Wildmoosalm hut. From the hut, take the "Hörmannweg" trail to the right, into the forest and back to Seefeld.

Tip! Fit hikers who wish to extend the adventure can make their way back to Seefeld via the 1,510-metre-high Brunschkopf mountain. Shortly before you reach the Wildmoosalm hut, take trail number 63 branching off to the left. After around 15 minutes there is another fork in the trail, this time heading right (trail number 62) to the Brunschkopf mountain. The descent back down to Seefeld starts in a westerly direction (trail number 62). At the next fork in the trail, trail number 61 offers two ways back to Seefeld: via the Wildmoosalm (right) or via Mösern (left).
