Three Day Trek of the Lechtal High Trail

Few times in life do hikers get the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful hiking adventure along a high, alpine ridge in a stunning wilderness area: This wonderful three day trek covers three stages of the all-in-all 100-kilometer long Lechtal High Trail. Hike into the heart of Lechtal Alps’ wilderness –this is high country and hikers should keep their eyes peeled for ibexes and for the most popular lodge of the Lechtal Alps, Memminger Hut. The glorious views of Feuerspitze Spire and of Parseierspitze Peak, which is the highest mountain of the Lechtal Alps topping out at more than 3,000 meters, might prevent hikers from devoting their full attention to the trail—there's just too much beauty and natural splendour to enjoy.

Trail description

Day 1: Kaisers – Kaiserjochhaus Lodge – Simms Hut
From the tiny hamlet of Kaisers, follow the trail into Kaisertal Valley until you reach Kaiseralm Alpine Pasture Hut. Take the right fork, cross Kaiserbach Brook and ascend on the trail that steeply climbs through larch forest. Eventually, the trail flattens and takes you to Kaiserjochhaus Lodge and on to Hinterseejoch Col. Having traversed Kridlonkar Cirque, you’ll get to “Klämmle”, a short descent through a steep gully on the northern slope of Vorderseespitze Spire, which has permanently fixed cables for protection. Below reddish Feuerspitze Spire, the trail climbs atop Kälberlahnzugjöchl Col (2,585 meters). From there, the trail zigzags down to Simms Hut, situated at an elevation of 2,002 meters. The hut is tucked beneath a towering mountain, 2,895-meter Holzgau Wetterspitze Summit, which is one of the loftiest peaks of the Lechtal Alps.

Day 2: Simms Hut - Ansbacher Hut
From the hut, retrace your steps to Kälberlahnzugjöchl Col and take the left fork towards Stierlahnzugjöchl (2.596 meters). The trail sidles below the rugged limestone faces of Feuerspitze Spire. Then, it traverses the north-eastern slopes of Vorderseespitze Spire and emerges onto the route coming from Kaiserjochhaus Lodge at Knappenböden.

Day 3: Ansbacher Hut - Memminger Hut
Make your way across Kopfscharte Notch, Winterjöchl Col and Grießlscharte Notch. From there, it’s a long way down into remote and pristine Parseiertal Valley, towered by mighty 3,036-meter Parseierspitze Peak. Having crossed Parseierbach Brook, the trail continues climbing Bärenpleis slopes on its way up to Memminger Hut. Memminger Hut the most popular lodge of the Lechtal Alps and is located at an elevation of 2,242 meters. The lodge features one of the best panoramas of Freispitze Spire and serves as perfect base for summiting Parseierspitze, the highest peak of the Lechtal Alps. From the hut, the trail runs into the valley again, following the route of the E5 long-distance hiking trail. The walk across remote and pristine Madau Valley takes you to the small village of Bach, which is the destination end of this three day trek along the Lechtal High Trail.
