This hike leads up onto the Karspitze, a mountain just in front of the Kreuzjoch, and takes less than five hours to complete. The 12-kilometre-long route begins at the top of the Rosenalmbahn ski lift and leads along mostly wide, open paths through lush meadows and some rocky terrain, passing a small lake along the way. The ascent to the top of the Karspitze mountain is relatively easy. En route there are plenty of huts and mountain restaurants .

Trail description
From the village of Zell am Ziller, ride the gondola to the top of Rosenalm (1,744 metres). Take the well-marked trail with many switchbacks to the Kreuzjochhütte hut (1,980 metres) and past the Kreuzjoch Alm (open in winter only) to the summit of the 2,257-metre-high Karspitze. The final section of the climb to the top is steep in places and leads through rough terrain. From the top, descend in a south-westerly direction, passing the Roßsee lake and the Karhütten buildings along trail number 11. At the Karhütten, take the trail heading south until you reach the Schmankerlhütte Kreuzwiesenalm hut at 1,880 metres. The trail just above the hut leads to a fork. Take the left-hand fork and descend along a narrow footpath to the Rosenalm, the starting point of this hike.
