This easy hike up to the top of the 2,039-metre-high Gschöllkopf begins at the top of the Rofanseilbahn cable car and leads through a beautiful landscape high above Lake Achensee. The 2.5 km route is an ideal warm-up at the start of a hiking holiday. After around an hour walking along the well-maintained trail you will reach the summit with its mighty "Adlerhorst" viewing platform offering a fabulous panorama taking in the Karwendel Mountains, the Hohe Tauern Mountains and the Zillertal Alps. Those with a head for heights and strong nerves can whizz back down into the valley on the "Airrofan" zipwire. There are several huts and restaurants near the top of the cable car. This trail is also suitable for families with children.

Trail description
From Maurach, the Rofanbahn cable car conveniently whisks you up into the heart of the Rofan Mountains. From the top station of the cable car, walk past the Mauritzalm hut on your way to a mountain ridge. Take the left fork and climb tussock slopes and pine dwarf fields to get to the top of the Gschöllkopf mountain with its spectacular “Adlerhorst”, a 360-degree viewing platform. The trail is kept in excellent condition and “Gschöllkopf” is clearly signposted with yellow signs. Retrace your steps and follow the same way back to get to the top of the cable car.
Tip! At Rofan, opposite the top of the Rofanbahn cable car, you can get an eagle's eye view of the mountains using the Eagle View, a special sightseeing telescope that offers breathtaking 360° views plus information on the mountain ranges visible.
