One of very few alpine huts with no forest road access, the Mauchelealm near Neugasteig in the Stubai Valley can only be reached via a steep mountain trail. A signpost en-route reads (in German) “You have overcome the worst of it, but still have to suffer a little more”. The “suffering”, however, is soon rewarded with a carpet of alpine roses and fabulous views at the Mischbachalm.
