Autumn is the perfect time of year to visit the Eulenwiesen, an area of alpine pastureland at the northern foot of the Serles mountain near Innsbruck. As summer slowly fades away, the trees here turn a million shades of red, orange, gold and brown. This idyllic forest can be easily accessed from the summit station Bergstation Koppeneck. This family-friendly walk leads along wide paths to Gleins and then down to the bottom station of the cable car. The Ochsenhütte hut near the top station of the cable car is a good place to stop for a hearty meal.

Trail description
The tour starts at the Koppeneck summit station of the Serlesbahn cable car, just above the village Mieders. Follow the path which runs between the restaurant and the Serlesseen lakes towards the mountain restaurant Gleinser Hof to the Ochsenhütte mountain hut. Turn left and walk along a path through the forest down towards the valley until you reach a forest road again. An alternative route is to leave out the Ochsenhütte mountain hut if you take the left forest road at the fork just after the mountain restaurant Koppeneck. Now follow the forest road for about one hour until you reach a fork with signposts. Take a sharp right turn towards the uphill path leading to the Eulenwiesen. After walking through a larch forest for three kilometres, you’ll reach the lookout of the Eulenwiesen. Take the same route back to the fork. Once you have reached that point, turn right and hike towards Gleins. Afterwards, you’ll pass the mountain restaurant Gleinser Hof. Take the curvy path down to the village of Mieders. Then follow the village road to the bottom station of the Serlesbahn cable car. If you want to, you can hike back from the Eulenwiesen to the Koppeneck summit station of the Serlesbahn cable car.
