Trail description
Leaving from the tourism information office in Scharnitz, take the bridge over the Isar river and then before you reach the church turn left onto the Hinterautalstraße road. Pass the "Wanderparkplatz Isarpromenade" car park and continue until you reach the Haus Taxi Mair building. Here, to the right of the Straße Eisack road, follow a forest trail gently uphill. After around 15 minutes you will reach the fork in the trail leading to the Isarsteig trail. At the end of this trail, take the Nederweg trail to the Scharnitzer Alm hut (995 metres) and all the way to the start of the Gleirschklamm gorge. The narrow walkway through the gorge itself is only suitable for walkers who are sure of foot and have experience hiking in alpine terrain. The trail leads through the gorge to the forest road into the Isartal Valley. From there, head in a westerly direction via the Jausenstation Wiesenhof Hinterautal (1,012 metres) back to Scharnitz.
There is also an alternative route from the Gleirschklamm in a southerly direction along the banks of the Gleirschbach stream to the Möslalm hut (1,262 metres). BIcycles can be hired from the hut and ridden back to Scharnitz. Distance from fork in trail to the Möslalm: 9 kilometres. Walking time from fork in trail: 2 hours.
