Kühtai is a village at just over 2,000 metres separating the Ötztal Valley from the Sellrain Valley. It is here that this walk invites hikers to explore the wonderful landscape in early summer, full of alpine roses and warm sunshine dancing on the surface of the three lakes which give this hike its name. Don't forget to stop off at the Drei-Seen-Hütte (2,334 metres) for a meal on the large, sunny terrace. The descent follows a different route along the 149-metre-high dam wall of the Finstertaler Stausee reservoir.

Trail description
Opposite the tourist office in Kühtai, the slightly ascending trail to the first lake (Hirschebensee) begins to the east. From there, the trail climbs somewhat more steeply to the second lake (Plenderlessee) at 2,317 metres and finally to the Drei-Seen-Hütte (2,334 metres) hut. The way back is via the Finstertal Valley, which can be reached via the marked trail that starts opposite the Drei-Seen-Hütte hut. It leads over the mountain top into the valley and soon joins the AV trail 146. Take the right-hand path at the fork and after the Hotel Astoria you will reach the starting point again in less than 3 hours. This moderately difficult route covers a good 360 vertical metres in altitude gain.
