This walk near Lake Achensee is ideal for older hikers and families with young children. It has just 420 vertical metres of uphill to complete and begins at the Saint Notburga Church in Maurach (or at the bottom of the Rofanseilbahn cable car) and leads through pastures and forests to the Buchauer Alm hut. All the paths are well-signposted and easy to follow. The reward for your effort is a hearty meal at the Buchauer Alm – unless, of course, you fancy a little more action and wish to continue on to the Ebner Joch (1,957 metres) mountain. Important information! The Buchauer Alm is currently closed due to damage caused by fire.

Trail description
The starting point for this easy hike is the Saint Notburga Church in Maurach am Achensee, a place of worship known for its magnificent Baroque interior. First cross the tracks of the Achensee railway and immediately afterwards the main road and a little further left head into the forest. After less than 100 metres you reach the wide, easy Notburgasteig trail, which leads in a north-westerly direction through the forest, mostly flat at first, later slightly uphill. Above Maurach this trail joins hiking trail 401, which leads up to the Buchauer Alm (1,385 metres) on a wide forest road with several hairpin bends. The hiking trail, which is shorter but somewhat steeper, leads along the Kasbach stream to the destination. The Buchauer Alm hut is located in a forest clearing, offering beautiful views of the Karwendel Mountains. Return along the way you came.
Tip! If you still have some energy left, you can also plan an ascent of the Ebner Joch (1,957 metres) via the Huber Trail. You should allow an additional hour's walking time for this. From there, descend via the Astenau-Alm (1,482 metres) back to Maurach.
