The Ackernalm alpine farm in the Thierseetal Valley near Kufstein is a popular day trip destination with a traditional alpine dairy. Around 300 years ago, farmers from around Lake Thiersee joined forces to form an agricultural community. This community alpine farm is now shared by 13 owners, and some 320 dairy cows spend their summers grazing on the 120 hectares of alpine pastures. The resultant milk is processed into outstanding Emmental and mountain cheese and delicious butter, which can be purchased at the dairy shop. The dairy itself at 1,400 metres above sea level is open daily between May and October and gives visitors an insight into the art of cheesemaking. Those who are in a hurry or prefer not to walk can drive all the way to the hut.
