Perched 900 metres above sea level between the Rofan Mountains and the Karwendel Mountains, Lake Achensee is at 9.4 kilometres in length the largest lake in Tirol and a popular destination for hikers, surfers, windsurfers and sailors. Along the shores of the lake, almost all the way around, there is a well-maintained tarmac path used by walkers and cyclists. Only one section is not suitable for wheelchairs (between Pertisau via the Gaisalm hut to Achenkirch), but wheelchair uses have the option of circumnavigating this section by boat. There are lots of traditional guesthouses serving food and drink in Achenkirch, on the way to Maurach and in Pertisau.

Trail description
The 13-kilometre-long, easy hiking trail leads from Achenkirch (Scholastika jetty) in the north of Lake Achensee to Pertisau in the south-west, leads along the shoreline of Tirol's largest lake. The first section leads clockwise along the eastern shore of the lake in a southerly direction. You pass Buchau and head towards Seespitz, where the path and shore turn to the north-west. Most of the path is tarmac and flat.
Route description for wheelchair users
The starting point is the Scholastika jetty in Achenkirch. From there, follow the tarmac path along the eastern shore of the lake as far as Pertisau. The path has a few small climbs and descents. Please note: The steepest section is at km 7.5, where there is a 10-metre-long ramp with a gradient of around 13%.
From Buchau the path is totally flat with the exception of one short 20-metre section with a gradient of around 10%. Please note: Paraplegic wheelchair users with a good level of fitness should be able to negotiate this trail without any problems. Tetraplegic wheelchair users are likely to need help on the section between Achenkirch and Buchau. From Buchau (km 8.3) the path is flat and therefore also suitable for tetraplegic wheelchair users.
The route finishes at the jetty in Pertisau, where wheelchair users can take the sightseeing boat back to the starting point in Achenkirch.
