The Zirbentrail is an easy singletrack mountain bike trail near Fiss measuring 9.1 kilometres from start to finish. It follows the route of several former trails (Almtrail, Flüstertrail and Zirbentrail) from the top of the Zwölferkopf mountain at almost 2,600 metres above sea level. The views are fantastic, but we recommend stopping to enjoy them – the trail itself requires full concentration. The final third of the trail leads through a thick pine forest which gives the trail its name (Zirbe is the German word for pine) all the way down to the bottom of the Almbahn cable car. Hungry riders can fuel up at the Restaurant Bergdiamant on the Fisser Joch ridge or at the Zirbenhütte next to the Schöngampbahn cable car. There is also another hut, the Schöngampalm, just before you reach the finish.

Trail description
To reach the start of the Zirbentrail on the Zwölferkopf mountain, ride sections I and II of the Fisser Schönjochbahn cable car to the top and then climb about 200 metres to the top of the Almbahn cable car. This is where singletrack trail number 7083 begins. The first section has lots of switchbacks and descends around 150 vertical metres to the Fisser Joch ridge. On the north side of the mountain, the trail then leads down to the Zirbenhütte hut at the bottom of the Schöngampbahn cable car, where you will find the upper treeline of the pine forest at about 2,100 metres above sea level. This section of the trail has a particularly large number of (hairpin) bends at the beginning and then again at the end shortly before the Schöngampalm hut. The last third of the trail first leads over gentle undulations through the stone pine forest and in the last section at the Schöngampalm along challenging switchbacks to the bottom station of the cable car.
