The Malfontal Valley is a quiet and secluded spot in the Verwall Mountains at the foot of the mighty Hoher Riffler mountain. This ride leaving from Pettneu am Arlberg winds its way up past the Hintere Malfonalm hut, now closed, and two shimmering mountain lakes. The ride is short and not too steep, but the many roots, water runnels and ruts require good bike-handling skills.

Trail description
The ride begins in Pettneu, 300 metres east of the car park next to the Wellnesspark. Follow the Reschenwiese road along the Malfonbach stream in a southerly direction. From the car park at the start of the Malfontal Valley, follow the dirt road. After almost one kilometre of riding, route 701 climbs up around 100 vertical metres via a series of switchback corners and then crosses over the Fernerbach stream. The next section to the Vordere Malfonalm hut is flatter. After passing the hut, continue for around two kilometres into the valley, past the Hintere Malfonalm (closed) to the two mountain lakes. Return along the same way you came.
