The Kathenrunde is a mountain bike ride offering fine views of the 1,996-metre-high Kitzbüheler Horn and many more peaks of the Wilder Kaiser Mountains. The route leads through the Kitzbühel Alps, past traditional farms and an idyllic small lake at Astberg. The highest point on the ride is the Bauernhof Kathen farmstead, which gives the ride its name. In Going you will find plenty of places serving food and drink. Riders who wish to stop at a mountain hut will have to make a small detour to the Hollenauer Kreuz, Blattalm or Brenner Alm.

Trail description
Leaving from the tourist information office in Going, follow route 273 in an easterly direction along the main village road ("Dorfstraße") to the car park next to the fire station. Switch to the gravel path and ride along the stream into the forest before switching back onto tarmac ("Reither Straße") and riding past the Sportpark Wilder Kaiser. Then turn left onto the cycle path. After just 800 metres, turn right onto the "Astbergweg" road towards Hollenauer Kreuz. Follow this narrow road uphill towards Schösser and Astberg in Reith. After around 1.7 kilometres, cross the Auenbach stream and after the small lake ("Plattenteich") climb up via a series of corners to the Sonnenlift. There, continue along the Astbergweg for two more kilometres, past Kathen to Greiln at around 1,100 metres above sea level. From there, take the Lierstättweg road for 2.7 kilometres in a northerly direction to Kirchbichl. After the church, turn rught and return along the road to Ellmau and Going.
