Trail description
Starting from the Länd car park in Scharnitz, take the Hinterautalstraße road heading in an easterly direction before crossing the Isar river and following the Karwendeltalweg trail into the forest. Route 595 then leads left of the Karwendelbach stream in a north-easterly direction into the Karwendel Valley, past the Schanzlklamm gorge and Katzenkopf mountain. After around seven kilometres, cross the Karwendelbach stream and continue to the Larchetalm hut (closed). Follow the route along the left-hand side of the stream. Below the peaks of the Hochkarspitze and Raffelspitze mountains the trail continues for 4.5 kilometres to the Angeralm hut at 1,358 metres above sea level. Five-hundred metres after passing the Angeralm, stay left and follow the switchback corners uphill to the Hochalm at 1,700 metres above sea level. All that then remains is the final push up several more corners to the Karwendelhaus.
Return along the way you came.
