This ride leads through the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park into the charming Dorfertal Valley and along the rushing Dorferbach river. En route, riders will be able to enjoy fantastic views of the mighty 3,657-metre-high Großvenediger mountain as well as many other peaadventure ends at the Johannishütte hut, where the reward for all that hard work is a hearty meal. Trail description
This route begins at the car park in Hinterbichl and leads along an asphalt road heading west. Take the first turning right and head uphill, past the Groderhof and parallel to the Dorferbach stream. Shortly after the Wiesenkreuz car park, cross the stream and continue uphill into the Dorfertal Valley. After two kilometres the route switches back onto the other side of the stream. Alternatively, you can cross over the stream a little earlier using the wider gravel road a little below the reservoir. Continue uphill via a series of switchback corners to the Gumpachkreuz and then complete the final 150 vertical metres all the way to the Johannishütte hut perched at 2,121 metres above sea level. Return along the same route.
