Trail description
The Wiegalm Trail can be accessed from Brixen im Thale (via mountainbike route 210) or from Kirchberg (via mountainbike route 257). Riders approaching from Brixen im Thale should follow route 210 (5.5 kilometres / 600 vertical metres) up to the Wiegalm hut at 1,513 metres above sea level. This traditional hut serving food and drink is a good place to stop for a drink and a snack before descending along mountainbike route 257 to the actual start of the trail. Riders approaching from Kirchberg should take route 257 (600 vertical metres) to the Wiegalm. The start of the trail is located around 20 vertical metres below the hut.
The trail is rated intermediate on the difficulty scale and leads through the Hagauwald forest to the Hagauhof hut. The final section to the Gasthaus Skirast is along a road. The top of the trail is flowy and crosses the forest road on several occasions. The trail then enters the forest and features a number of steep sections with loose gravel, demanding good bike-handling skills. From the Gasthaus Skirast the trail continues along the river to Kirchberg. The Brixental Cycle Path then takes riders back to Brixen in Thale.
