Set against the impressive backdrop of the Silvretta Mountains, the high-altitude cross-country skiing trail between Silvretta and Bielerhöhe is divided into two sections. The first section (R1a) is almost ten kilometres in length and begins in the small village of Wirl. From there it heads into the Kleinvermunt valley before reaching an artificial lake. Here, skiers can decide if they want to take on the challenging second section (R1b) up to Bielerhöhe on the shoes of the Silvretta reservoir or turn around and head back to the starting point. Between November and April the valley is wonderfully quiet thanks to the fact that the Silvretta High Alpine Road is closed to the public.

Trail description
The trail begins in the small village of Wirl and leads into the valley as far as the artificial lake just above the Großer Vermuntsee lake.
Skiers head back along the same way they came, though there are a number of short sections where the trail back to Wirl takes a slightly different route.
