Cross-country skiing trail R1b is the second section of the long-distance cross-country skiing trail in the Silvretta Mountains and connects to the first section, R1a. It begins at the artificial lake in the Kleinvermunt valley and takes skiers all the way up to Bielerhöhe (2,043 metres) and the Silvretta reservoir. This second section is more challenging than the first. Skiers who want to take on both R1a and R1b in one go need good fitness to complete the almost 19-kilometre trail from the small village of Wirl near Galtür all the way to Bielerhöhe. The Silvretta High Alpine Road, which runs through the same valley, is closed to the public in winter, so cross-country skiers can enjoy total peace and quiet.
