From cooling off at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser Mountains to splashing around in the Achensee, Tirol's many dazzling natural lakes are a great place for swimming, action & adventure, relaxation and fishing.
Tirol's alpine lakes are fed by freshwater mountain springs, meaning that their water is clean enough to drink. Temperatures vary between refreshing and warm, depending on the location and the time of year. For example, the Schwarzsee in Kitzbühel reaches temperatures of up to 27°C in summer and has water which is rich in natural moorland minerals said to have healing properties. A little cooler at 22-25°C but no less attractive is the Natterersee near Innsbruck, where activities include a water trampoline and sailing boats available for hire. The local government in Tirol regularly monitors the water quality in the region's lakes.
One thing that all lakes in Tirol have in common are fabulous mountain views, with thick forests and lush meadows giving way to sheer rock faces in front of a deep bluw sky. It is also easy to combine hikes and mountain bike rides with a stop at one of the region's lakes. Families with children will also find plenty to see and do. Tirol's beautiful mountain lakes really offer something for everyone.
