Innsbruck, situated on the banks of the Inn, has its own artificially constructed lake in the south-east of the city known as the "Baggersee" or "Badesee Rossau".
Surrounded by grassy lawns with plenty of trees providing shade, it blends into the landscape and offers great views of the Nordkette mountains. Despite its proximity to the city, the lake’s green surroundings and fabulous panoramic views give it an unmistakably alpine flair..
At the same time, it has all the facilities needed for a fun day out for all the family, from changing areas, toilets and showers to a barbeque area, beach volleyball, badminton, streetball, boccia, chess, table tennis, mini golf and two restaurants. There is a wooden walkway leading out onto the lake and a floating island in the middle. Toddlers and young children can splash around in the paddling area featuring a mini slide, swings and climbing frame. Older children and adults can test their balance on a slackline. Inflatable paddle boats are allowed onto the lake, which is also a popular meeting place for surfers in autumn.
During the summer months the water temperature reaches a pleasant 24°C. And when it gets too cold for the swimmers and surfers, the lake is an important habitat for large water birds such as swans and cormorants.
