Considered a classic among Alpine long walks, the Zillertal Steinbock March (literally, ‘Ibex Trek’) has been held annually for more than 50 years. Lace up your hiking boots for the 56th event this August!
Now in its 56th year, the Zillertal Steinbock March is a 30K trek through the heart of the Zillertal Alps. Starting at 05:00am at the Nature Park Visitor’s Center in Ginzling, Inner Zillertal Valley, the route takes walkers across rugged and pristine Floitental Valley atop 2,870-meter Mörchnerscharte Notch, which is the highest elevation on this trek. The second half of the course winds its way down across Zemmgrund and past Berliner Hut to the finish at Breitlahner Alpine Inn. This trek through high Alpine areas is quite demanding and should only be attempted by those who are sure footed and physically fit and have a good head for heights, mountaineering skills and experience. The walk includes a vertical gain of 1,871 meters and a vertical loss of 1,610 meters. Each participant will receive a Steinbock March Badge. The award-giving ceremony takes place at 8:00pm.
