Arguably one of the hardest events in Tirol: The Stubai Glacier is put in your path on this gruelling challenge. Expect stunning views, tired legs and an unbelievable sense of achievement at the end.
Defining exactly what it is, the motto of this tough event is “urban2glacier”: On June 29, 2024, the 7th Stubai Ultra Trail kicks-off at the square in front of Tirol’s Provincial Theater in Innsbruck. This feat of endurance is a one-day run from the heart of town to the top of Stubai Glacier, including 5,110 meters of climbing and 2,820 meters of descending on a 67K route – for any trail runner this arguably could be seen as their Mecca of events. En route, they will be treated to scenic vistas and steep hills. From the Innsbruck Old Town, the course passes along Sill River and past Bergisel Ski Jump across Sillschlucht Canyon, continues along Ruetzbach Creek into Stubai Valley and follows varied trails past Ruetz Cataract and Grawa Waterfall to Jochdohle On-Mountain Restaurant atop Stubai Glacier. All athletes competing in this epic challenge hope to complete it to put their names in this events history books.
Think you are not tough enough to take on the Ultra Trail? Then the “Stubai 31K” might be for you. Finishing atop Stubai Glacier, too, this event starts in Neustift in Stubai Valley and includes 2,960 meters of climbing and 720 meters of descending on a 31K route — still tough and physically taxing.
A little less demanding is the “Stubai 18K”, a 18K route with 1,796 vertical meters to tackle.
The shortest distance is the “Stubai 8K”, a mountain run that kicks-off at the base of Stubai Gletscherbahn Gondola and climbs 1,210 vertical meters on its 7.5-kilometer long way to the glacier. New this year is the “Stubai 15K Sunnenseit’n Trail”.
