Each year, hardy New Year revelers, many in fancy dress, brave freezing conditions in the Achensee Lake during the annual New Year’s Eve Swimming Tradition on December 31 in Pertisau.
Finish off the old year and bring in the new with a swimming New Year’s celebration: Hardy swimmers take the plunge in this year’s traditional New Year’s dip in the icy waters of the 4 degree Celsius lake, which at this time of year might even be frozen over in a few places. If you are really brave and frost-resistant, you can participate in the 22nd New Year’s Eve swimming competition in Achensee Lake on December 31, 2023, at the lakeside promenade in front of Pertisau’s Post Hotel yourself: Jump into the icy water at 12:30pm, swim 25 meters to the iceberg as quickly as possible, scale it, ring the New Year’s Eve bell and swim back 25 meters as quickly as possible. The entertainment value at the New Year’s Eve Swim is hard to top. Up to 3,000 enthusiastic spectators line the banks of Achensee Lake each year to cheer on the courageous swimmers.
