Franz Gratl, the curator of the music department at the Tirol Provincial Museum Ferdinandeum, will give insights into the world of Early Music at these monthly concert series at the Innsbruck House of Music.
The ConTakt series revolve around the theme of Early Music, which is deeply rooted in history in Tirol’s capital: Famous masters of Renaissance and Baroque music were members of the court of Emperor Maximilian I at Innsbruck. In the 16th and 17th centuries, a Tyrolean stirps of the Habsburgian dynasty ruled in Innsbruck with an independent court, where music was very much favoured and court orchestras featured the best musicians from all across Europe. Reaching back into this history, Innsbruck began to foster the appreciation of Early Music in the middle of the 20th century and created a supportive environment for the performance of medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music. The Ambras Castle Concerts, first held in 1964, and the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music that was established in 1976, have played a pioneering role in the revival of Baroque opera and in the promotion of historically informed performance practices. Since its beginnings, the Innsbruck Festival has been recognised as a leading international platform for emerging talent in the early music world. Nowadays, new event series, such as musik+ or Innsbruck Evening Music, as well are designed to revive works of the Renaissance and Baroque eras.
ConTakt, the monthly concert series at the Innsbruck House of Music, invites the audience to dive into the world of music of centuries ago.
