Once a year, Ehrenberg Castle near Reutte turns the clock back to medieval times: More than 2,000 strolling players, mystics, jugglers, jousters, jesters and many more tour the fortress and take visitors on a journey into time long past at Europe’s biggest historic festival. Thousands turn out for the annual Knight’s Tournament Games, which are now in its 17th year. The sights, scenes and sounds of Ehrenberg Castle and its environs all combine to recreate the atmosphere of the era. The Knight’s Tournament Games are fantastic fun-filled days, full of bone-crunching combat knights, music and scrumptious food. There are re-enactments at the Historic Battle of Ehrenberg and the Combat against a Roman legion and armour-clad knights battle it out with sword and axe to gain the victor’s laurels. From storytelling to knights in combat and giants blowing bubbles, the programme of entertainment for budding knights and princesses is bursting at the seams. With stalls spread throughout the castle grounds in decorated marquees and historical tents, the Medieval Market provides a chance to see crafts from the past. Join the Medieval townsfolk, musicians and nobles as there is no better way to learn about history and have fun at the same time. Spectacular firework displays will light up the night sky above Ausserfern during the Night Tournament on Saturday night at 11:00pm.
