Offering a new finish line, the Kitzbühel Cycling Marathon will be held for the fourth time this September. Recreational athletes can show off their prowess in this mettle-testing, muscle-busting road bike race.
This tough road cycling event pits amateur athletes against one another in the most rigorous climb of the Tour of Austria: The challenging ascent of what is considered Austria’s steepest mountain, the summit of Kitzbüheler Horn—that is, hill-climbing, at a grade of up to 23 percent! In this extreme road ride, cyclists traverse 216 kilometers across Alpbachtal Valley and Brandenberg and over three gorgeous mountain passes – Pass Thurn, Gerlos Pass and Kerschbaumer Saddle – for a total elevation gain of 4,600 meters.
New this year is a different finish line. The KRM Kitz does not end atop the summit of Kitzbüheler Horn but at Kitzbühel Vorderstadt instead. By doing so, competitors will spare the final push of 800 vertical meters.
Side events begin on September 07, 2024, at Sport Park. All day long, cyclists can load up on carbs over pasta dishes and “Kaiserschmarrn” there. The extreme marathon race will start at Vorderstadt on Sunday morning at 06:30am.
