There’s no other race in East Tirol like this (and not many in Austria for that matter): This incredible 110K ultra marathon will leave you breathless with its elevation gain of 6,500 meters.
A once-in-a-lifetime race experience to run across three Austrian Provinces, seven valleys and six villages and past 14 glaciers and roughly 300 Three-Thousanders, featuring the highest mountain peak in Austria. Witness the breathtaking beauty and grand views as you traverse the challenging mountain trails and terrain of Hohe Tauern National Park. Now in its 9th year, this high altitude race with lots of climbing starts and finishes in Kaprun in the Austrian Province of Salzburg. From there, racers will climb through rugged terrain further into the Hohe Tauern Range as they circle Großglockner, the tallest peak of Austria at 3,798 meters. As vast panoramas open up, racers will take in the thin mountain air on majestic ridges. The diverse and demanding course will keep endurance runners captivated as they navigate past Glocknerhaus Lodge, Salm Hut, Stüdl Hut and Kals Tauernhaus Lodge in East Tirol. There is a 30-hour official finish line cutoff.
As in the past, there are shorter distances for less ambitious runners: The East Tirol Trail (84K, 5,000 meters of elevation gain), the Großglockner Trail (57K, 3,500 meters of elevation gain), and the Weissee Glacier World Trail (35K, 1,500 meters of elevation gain). The latest addition is the Kaprun Scenic Trail Speed Run (16K, 1,000 meters of elevation gain).
On the East Tirol side in Kals am Großglockner, there are the “Mini GGUT” kids’ events (1K or 3.1K).
