The Nordic Night Race will once again hit the streets of Galtür, bringing thrilling cross country ski racing to the heart of the village. In late March, recreational athletes will rub shoulders with pro skiers and battle for glory.
Now in its fifth year, the skating sprint through this quaint village at the end of Paznaun Valley is one of the highlights of the ski season. Recreational skate skiers aged 16 and older compete against the clock and themselves – and against elite skiers like Mario Seidl, Dominik Baldauf, David Pommer and Urban Lentsch. Racing will start with the adult qualification runs at 4:30pm. City sprints are much fun to watch. For their speed – and, dare we say, unpredictability?
First, competitors have to tackle a short 500-meter long qualification round. The 16 fastest female and male skiers progress to the next round, which comprises of two loops through the village center on a 1,000-meter long track. The finals pit skiers against one another and the event is concluded with the award-giving ceremony.
Kids and junior skiers can compete in U11 and U16 divisions and everyone will receive a prize in the end.
