It is with great joy and pleasure that a momentous international event returns to the Olympia Region, where Nordic skiing is a way of life: In 2019, Seefeld will play host to the 52nd Nordic World Ski Championships.
After 1985, 2019 will mark the second time that Seefeld in Tirol will host Nordic World Ski Championships. Seefeld hosted Nordic competitions for the 1964 and 1976 Olympic Winter Games and for the Inaugural Youth Olympic Winter Games in 2012. Moreover, the venue of the 1985 Nordic World Ski Championships has been regularly hosting Nordic Combined World Cup events since then. Winning the bid against Germany’s Oberstdorf and Slovenia’s Planica for its snow sureness and easy accessibility from Innsbruck and Munich, Seefeld will welcome the world back to the Olympia Region in 2019.
Preparations for the Nordic Ski Worlds are going full steam ahead with a series of investment projects that will see the creation of two stadiums and the upgrade of existing infrastructure. Until 2019, two stadiums with large spectator stands will be erected at the base of the Toni Seelos Olympic Ski Jumps, venue of the cross country skiing and ski jumping competitions. The large hill ski jump competitions will be held at Bergisel Ski Jump in Innsbruck.
