The International Balloon Days at Tirol’s largest lake are now in its seventh year. You can take a balloon ride (and go up, up and away) during any of the once daily mass ascensions: Imagine floating serenely along winter wonderland in a thatched basket hundreds of feet up, looking down on the snow-capped peaks of the Karwendel and Rofan Mountains. Flights typically last one hour. At the end of the trip, you will receive a certificate. The 2024 Balloon Days bring a special night of celebration and fun with a Night Glow at the car park of Hochalm Ski Lifts. The balloons stay fully inflated but tethered to the ground so spectators can get up-close views. Imagine rows upon rows of bulbous luminaries, dozens of feet tall, lit up from the glow of flames on the northern shore of Achensee Lake.
