In June, Tirol dishes up the biggest summer sports event of the year: The 2023 WMTRC will take place in Innsbruck and Stubai with up to 1400 athletes from all over the globe competing in the Heart of the Alps.
Tirol practically begs you to get outside and take advantage of all it has to offer. It’s also a great place for serious athletes to challenge themselves to ascend ever-greater heights — literally. That’s why Tirol’s lively capital Innsbruck and scenic Stubai Valley have teamed up to bring the 2023 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships to the Heart of the Alps. The mountain trails of Innsbruck begin where the sidewalks end and the surrounding mountains as well as Stubai Valley transform into an outdoor enthusiast’s playground in the warmer months. From June 06 to 10, 2023, the world’s best competitors will vie for the coveted titles and prizes here.
For the World Championships, four breathtaking routes will be prepared: A 40K Short Trail, an 80K Long Trail, a Classic “Up and Down” Race in Innsbruck and a “Vertical” in Stubai Valley. The “Vertical” route will take competitors from the village center of Neustift to the top terminal Elferbahnen Gondolas and on to Elfer Hut, which is located at 2,004 meters above sea level. An Expo Area will be erected in the heart of Innsbruck, in the front of Congress Center.
