In many Tirolean communities, farming folk celebrate the end of the harvest and give thanks for their produce with a series of processions at the end of October.
A key aspect of these celebrations are the masses celebrated in church where the local population bring along items from the year's harvest to be blessed.
The “Harvest Crown” also plays an important role in this custom. It is lavishly embellished with box tree branches, sheaves of grain, flowers and crops and serves as a graphic symbol of the harvested crops. Local young men carry the crown through the village after mass as part of the thanksgiving procession.
