Several years ago Daniel Neururer and Maria Wibmer had a dream: to create custom-made skis designed to match skier's individual height, weight and ability level. Fast forward a few years and the duo, who originally studied economics and architecture respectively, have made this dream come true with their workshop XQZT Skis in Ötztal-Bahnhof.
For decades we have been used to buying ready made skis off the shelf in sports shops up and down the land, while the expressions "custom-made" and "made-to-measure" were reserved for fine suits and exclusive shoes. But today that has all changed thanks to people like Daniel Neururer and Maria Wibmer, the masterminds behind XQZT Skis.
Me and my ski
The name XQZT Skis simply stands for "exquisite skis" – and that is precisely what wintersports enthusiasts who pay a visit to Daniel and Maria in their workshop in Ötztal Bahnhof can expect. Despite their exclusive nature, these hand-made works of art with a wood core are surprisingly affordable. Ambitious skiers will feel the difference right from the very first carved turn. Of course, the two owners of XQZT Skis also take the time to push their own creations to the limit out on the slopes – a tough day "in the office"!
The best thing about custom-made skis is that, apart from a few basics, customer have total freedom to create precisely the pair of skis they have always dreamt of, from high-speed cruisers to lightweight touring skis. All XQZT skis are made by hand using environmentally friendly materials and production techniques.
